Expansion for Haymills in Gibraltar
by Ross Pearman
Haymills is expecting continued growth in its Gibraltar division
despite the recent unrest over possible shared sovereignty of the
Rock.
"I don't see work for the group harmed by shared sovereignty," said
group chief executive Steve Feery. "In fact, it could be an
exciting challenge and I believe we have the team to do it.
"Only recently we have secured a contract in Gibraltar against
strong competition from a Spanish contractor. That's not unusual as
although we are slightly more expensive than our native colleagues,
we are producing better quality results."
The group first set foot on Gibraltar in 1987 as a supplier of
works for the Ministry of Defence.
Turnover from the Rock now stands at £5m, mostly from housing
projects for the government.
Feery said the Gibraltar team could venture onto the Spanish
mainland.
