Industry pays tribute to FMB's Ron Brown

Ron Brown, the former Labour MP for Shoreditch and deputy director general of the Federation of Master Builders (FMB), has died. He was aged 80.

Brown represented the London constituency of Shoreditch from 1964 to 1983. He was subsequently appointed director of industrial relations at the federation and served as deputy director general between 1987 and 1991.

His Parliamentary experience proved invaluable in raising the federation's political profile. Working alongside another ex-MP in Bill Hilton, he helped the FMB achieve a notable success in strengthening its voice in the Construction Industry Training Board.

Ron Brown was a qualified electrical engineer. Up until his death at the end of July he had continued to act as a consultant to the FMB on health and safety matters.
