OGC sets tough target for best practice
Exclusive by Ross Pearman
The Office of Government Commerce (OGC) has set itself a tough
target of 70% of one-off or occasional clients adopting best
practice over the next few years.
This announcement came hot on the heels of the OGC's construction
and development divisions being merged.
OGC wants to push the improvement of procurement knowledge across
government into top gear following the foundation work laid by
former construction director Deryk Eke, who has returned to BAA
after his secondment.
The two merged departments are now known as the performance
improvement division, which is split between three managers. They
are: Mike Burt, formerly in charge of disposals but now in charge
of project sponsors, providing advice to one-off or occasional
government clients; Michael Corcoran, who will take control of
procurement advice to departments that do not need a project
sponsor but need general advice; and Arnold Butler, who has
experience in property and was previously an estate surveyor, and
will have direct liaison with the industry as he oversees the new
division.
A review of the results on how far the Achieving Excellence
initiative has come has been completed by Eke and is expected out
in the next few weeks.
