Trio in £26m PFI schools bid

Three groups are vying to make the grade for a £26m private finance schools scheme in north London.

Babcock & Brown, King Sturge/Ballast and Japanese firm Kajima will work up bids to redevelop the Haverstock School in Challe Farm for Camden Council.

A council source said: "Ideally we want to go straight to appointing a preferred bidder and miss out the best and final offer stage, which would save a lot of time.

"But it all depends on the quality of the bids," he said.

The council wants to have its preferred bidder ready early in the New Year so that a start on site can be made during summer 2003.
