Nuttall gets £27m Dover ferry deal
Edmund Nuttall has landed a £27m contract to build two new
ferry berths at Dover. The Harbour expects port ferry traffic to
increase in the medium term and is investing a record amount in
construction of new berths.
Work is set to start this month ready to bring the first berth into
service in the autumn and the second in the following spring.
The designs accommodate larger ferries of up to 32m beam as well as
the existing Dover ferry fleet.
A by-product of the project will be some easing of traffic
congestion from the approach through the town on the A20. A
multi-purpose check-in plaza for tourist and freight vehicles
opened last month.
