Greenfield buys kit to reduce hiring costs
Durham-based civil engineering contractor Greenfield has invested
£350,000 in new plant and equipment after analysing the amount
it spent on plant hire and the availability of kit.
According to director Nick Redpath: "Not only was it costly to keep
hiring the plant we needed, it was also limiting the level of
business we could achieve. Certain machines were not always
available when we wanted them, and staff were spending too much
time arranging hire and scheduling our own fleet of equipment
across a range of jobs."
The new kit includes a self-propelled Caterpillar roller, which
Redpath said is in short supply in the region. Other kit covered
ranges from two JCB backhoes and a JS220 excavator to a Caterpillar
D6 dozer and a Volvo A25 dump truck.
"We decided the level of business justified the investment,
particularly as it means we can hire out any extra capacity
machines through our plant hire division," Redpath added.
