UCATT backs 48hr week
UCATT is to demand the legal enforcement of a maximum 48-hour
working week at next month's TUC conference in Blackpool.
A UCATT motion tabled for the conference between 9 and 12 September
calls for the removal of the power of individuals and employers to
opt out of the prescribed 48-hour maximum working week.
The union will also press for:
l Public holidays to become a statutory employment right and
excluded from the four weeks paid holiday required by the Working
Time Regulations.
l Three extra public holidays a year, bringing the UK in line with
the rest of Europe.
l A duty on employers to ensure that holiday leave is taken.
l Fines for employers in breach of the regulations and a warning
that should remain live for three years that must be produced when
tendering for work.
l Creation of a government enforcement team to ensure unscrupulous
employers observe the regulations.
