HA seeks telecoms firm
The Highways Agency (HA) is to appoint a provider of
telecommunications services dedicated to supporting its traffic
systems.
The HA estimates that the cost of providing key traffic system
services will amount to around £400m over a 10-year
period.
The service provider will be expected to co-ordinate and provide
telecommunications services, including transmission services on the
road network. The provider will also have to manage and deliver the
planning, installation and maintenance of aerials, masts and
infrastructure on the HA's land and structures.
Various consultancy services may also be required and there is also
an option to add the provision and maintenance of CCTV masts and
infrastructure to the contract.
The HA expects the contract to run for between 10 and 20 years. The
contract is currently due to start in spring 2004. Potential
bidders have until 7 October to register their interest.
