Euro fire test harder
The European fire resistance test standard on fire doors is 10% to
15% harder to pass than the British equivalent, according to BM
TRADA, the construction certification specialist.
"The BS EN 1634 Part 1, Doors & Shutters, is noticeably harder
than its British equivalent. If the construction industry starts
specifying to the European standard it will end up with a tougher
product," said Simon Beer, BM TRADA's doors and windows product
certification manager.
"It could have cost implications for door manufacturers as they
might have to beef up their products," said Beer.
