Guide to help first-timers
Small and medium-sized contractors (SMEs) competing for government
work should find it easier to get their foot in the door thanks to
a new guide.
The Office of Government Commerce wants to widen access to the
marketplace for contractors entering the sector for the first
time.
Public sector buyers will receive a copy of Smaller Supplier -
Better Value?, urging them to consider the benefits of dealing with
SMEs, the barriers they face and ideas about how to lower those
barriers. Buyers will also be given advice on financial assessment
of contractors, encouraging greater flexibility and more
opportunities for small and medium-sized first-time bidders.
A code of practice emphasising the importance of fairness, honesty,
efficiency and professionalism throughout the supply chain has also
been set out.
Contractors themselves will also receive guidance on how to sell to
government clients.
