New Year's Honours given for services to construction

Alan Crane, chairman of Rethinking Construction, has been awarded a CBE in the New Year's Honours list for services to the construction industry.

Crane, the former chief executive of Christiani & Nielsen, is also chairman of judges at the Contract Journal Awards.

Peter Coates, the head of private finance and investment at the department of health, also received a CBE.

There was an OBE for John Gillvray, the managing director of Belfast-based building and civil engineering firm Farrans.

And there were MBEs for: Thomas Brian Walker for services to health and safety in construction; Anthony Zandona of WSP Civils for services to highway engineering; and Ann Justice, former president of the Heating & Ventilating Contractor's Association.
