UCATT claims holiday pay from Balfour
UCATT has lodged a huge claim against Balfour Beatty Utilities for
backdated holiday pay.
George Guy, regional secretary of UCATT, said an employment
tribunal claim had been submitted on behalf of 120 operatives with
John Kennedy which had been bought by Balfour in 2001.
The union contends that Balfour has not paid holidays correctly to
1,000 employees - in particular that holiday money has not been
paid at a rate of average weekly earnings.
The claim is backdated to the date of implementation of the Working
Time Regulations. Each employee could receive £1,000.
Guy said: "We have tried to settle this by negotiating with the
company. But it is not talking to us. So we have no alternative but
to lodge a mass tribunal claim."
A Balfour Beatty spokeswoman said: "A number of claims have been
received by staff with John Kennedy, but the vast majority have
chosen not to lodge one. The company believes it has complied with
its statutory obligation at all times."
