Wates workers told to "tow the line" on Twin Valley's sites

Wates has been warned that music, swearing, or wolf -whistles will not be tolerated on any social housing sites across Blackburn and Darwen as part of a clampdown on anti-social site behaviour by client Twin Valley Homes.

The conditions drafted into the main contractor's codes of conduct ban any worker from using radios or cassette players, mouthing bad language or conducting any sexist or racist behaviour when on site.

Workers will also be banned from leaving tools on site overnight, leaving residents' doors open or using their telephones.

Wates is working for Twin Valley Homes following the residents' decision to transfer their 10,000-house stock over to a private company.

A spokeswoman for the client said that it took site behaviour "very seriously" and that contractors would be expected to "tow the line".
