Celcon's blocked takeover of Marley gets clarification

The competition minister Melanie Johnson has issued a clarification on H+H Celcon's now aborted attempt to buy Marley Building Materials (MBM).

Original findings from the Competition Commission (CC) , issued last summer, were thought to be too onerous, and, in response to a request from aircrete block manufacturer Celcon, Johnson has declared that while the group would not be allowed to acquire MBM, it could still purchase one of MBM's production plants.

The CC concluded that a full merger would have impaired competition in the aircrete block market.
