Fashion guru to head up Building for Life

Fashion designer Wayne Hemingway has been named as the new chairman of Building for Life.

Building for Life, a partnership between the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment, the House Builders Federation and the Civic Trust, aims to provide examples of the most innovative and successful new housebuilding to an audience of professionals and public alike, in order to raise the standards of new houses currently being built.

Hemingway, who has spent the last few years designing affordable housing, said: "It's three years since I spouted my mouth off about the state of some of Britain's newbuild estates.

"I have been lucky enough to be able put my ideas where my mouth is by working on the Staiths South Bank development in Gateshead and now, as chairman of Building for Life, I can join a team that is already having success in promoting good design practice and sustainability in housing.

"It's a chance for me to get further involved in an industry that impacts on all our lives," said Hemingway.
