The transformation of Woolwich has taken a major step forward
after the London Development Agency (LDA) appointed two architects
to develop plans for the future regeneration of the area.
East and Sergison Bates will collaborate on a design-led approach
to regeneration and provide a fresh vision for the future of
Woolwich.
Len Duvall, the vice chair of the LDA Board and GLA member for
Greenwich and Lewisham, said: "This is a significant step
forward.
"The LDA's excellent work at the Royal Arsenal site has helped halt
the decline of Woolwich town centre. We hope that this new work
will build on the LDA's earlier achievements.
" We now look forward to bringing about the redevelopment of
Woolwich as part of the regeneration of the wider Thames
Gateway."
The development of Woolwich's town centre was one of the
proposals for Thames Gateway contained in the Sustainable
Communities Plan, which was recently announced by the deputy
prime minister.
