Newcastle advertises five year highways framework contract

Newcastle City Council is inviting contractors to pitch for a five to seven year highways partnering deal worth £40m a year.

The council is looking for one or more partners to assist its in-house team. The work includes highway and structural design, contract supervision and project management, highways maintenance management and a variety of traffic management and road safety services.

The scope of work will also include all the related construction activity for these services, including general civil engineeering construction, structural repairs and maintenance, highway surfacing works and traffic signal installation and maintenance.

The council says it would welcome responses for both large and small, public and private organisations.

The contract is scheduled to begin sometime after October 2003 and will run for a minimum duration of five to seven years.

Contractors have until 31 March 2003 to express interest in the deal.
