AggRegain has issued new guidance on the
use of recycled aggregates in concrete in preparation for when the
current British Standard for concrete (BS 5328) will be replaced by
the European Standard BS EN 206 in December 2003.
In advance of these changes, AggRegain is seeking to raise
awareness of the potential use of these materials and air-cooled
blastfurnace slag in place of primary aggregates in low strength
concrete for use in housing developments.
"Technical notes, purchase order details and a case study showing
savings of at least £2 per tonne where recycled concrete
aggregate replaced primary material in the construction of a
concrete access road can be found on the AggRegain website,
www.aggregain.co.uk. In addition, a list of frequently asked
questions on the changes in the standards and the use of recycled
and secondary aggregates in concrete produced by Dr Bill Price of
the British Cement Association is also available," said an
AggRegain spokesman.
AggRegain is the recently launched web-based free information
service from the Waste and Resources Action Programme.
