Climb three peaks in 24 hours for charity

Here is a challenge to test the stamina of Contract Journal readers - the Coins Three Peaks Challenge, which will take place on 31 May-1 June 2003.

Construction industry firms are invited to sign up teams of five to seven walkers, plus a two-person support/driving crew, to take on the challenge of climbing the highest mountains in England (Scafell Pike, Lake District), Wales (Snowdon) and Scotland (Ben Nevis) in just 24 hours.

The second part of the challenge is for each team to fund raise £5,000 to aid the work of humanitarian charity CARE International UK, which works to improve the lives of people in the poorest communities in the world.

Up to 30 teams can enter the event - 19 have already signed up. The event is scheduled to raise £150,000 in total.

The event is organised by CARE's Challenge Team and is sponsored by Coins, the construction industry software solutions company. Contract Journal is the construction media partner for the event .

The CARE mountain challenge series is now in its eighth year and attracts participants from hundreds of companies, many of whom return year after year. Eight mountain events are planned for 2003, but this is the first time an exclusively construction-related event has been added to the roster.

Be warned! CARE advises that participants do need to prepare for the gruelling event. Its Challenge Team is available to offer help and advice on training, equipment and fundraising.
