Reversing the noise levels

The Noise Abatement Society (NAS) has added its weight to the calls for reducing noise pollution from reversing vehicles. It visited Tarmac's brick construction site in Arundel to hear Brigade's bbs-tek system in action.

"We appreciate the need to alert pedestrians to a reversing vehicle but consideration must be given to those who can be driven to distraction by its noise," said Peter Wakeham from the NAS.

The bbs-tek is said to be 30% quieter than other systems. It uses directional and locatable broadband sound, said to be more discernible, but only audible to those in the path of the vehicle.

In Tarmac's case, the complaints from Arundel residents were eliminated by switching to the bbs-tek system.
