Jarvis wins £7.5m worth of street lighting contracts


Jarvis Highways, the road infrastructure maintenance division of Jarvis plc, has been awarded two separate contracts for the maintenance of street lighting in south east England and Scotland.

The East Sussex, Brighton & Hove street lighting maintenance contract is a combined project, jointly let by East Sussex County council and Brighton & Hove County council.

The deal, which involves the maintenance of 72,000 street lights for the next three years, is worth £6m in total. Work will start in April.

The North Ayrshire Street Lighting Maintenance contract covers general and special maintenance of 21,500 street lights in the region. With a total contract value of £1.5m, the job will also run for three years.

Jarvis Highways managing director John Worthington said: "As well as being a great fit with our existing services, these two contracts are also an important step in our campaign to move into the PFI market for street lighting.

"We are currently pursuing a number of opportunities in this important sector, and we will be using the experience gained in launching these projects in Ayrshire and Sussex to fine tune our operational approach and put together an even more competitive offer for our clients."
