Consortia featuring Balfour Beatty, Mowlem, Peterhouse and Amec have signed framework deals with Network Rail to continue the upgrade of power supply on the southern England rail network.
The frameworks for Inner London, Kent, Sussex and Wessex cover the design, construction and installation of new electrification equipment. Once the contracts are completed, they will allow improved train performance and reliability and help the existing infrastructure to accommodate a new generation of trains. Work should begin soon and be completed by 2005.
The projected value for the 2003/04 period in each of the four regions is £40m to £50m.
