Armed ram raiders made off with an estimated £500,000 from
a security van earlier today (Thursday) - after using a JCB digger
to smash it open.
The gang drove their giant machine into the side of the van in
Glasgow, forced it through a shop window and, after threatening
three security guards, escaped with the cash.
The guards had just picked up cash from a bank in Burnside when the
robbers struck.
Although Bank of Scotland officials wouldn't reveal exactly how
much money was stolen, but it's believed to be more than
£500,000.
Detective Inspector Gordon McConnell of Rutherglen CID said: "The
van was rammed by a JCB mechanical digger, driven by one of the
suspects, and forced against another building.
The car and digger were later recovered at the scene.
