Steelwork regeneration gathers pace

National house builder and property developer Wilson Bowden Developments has today (Thursday) been granted outline approval for the regeneration of Ravenscraig steelworks site.

The decision by North Lanarkshire Council's special planning committee will result in 3,500 homes, retail and leisure facilities in the town centre, as well as industrial and business premises.

As many as 12,000 jobs will be created as £1bn is invested over the next 20 years.

The resolution still needs to be agreed by the Scottish Executive but if successful, the next phase of work will begin on site by the end of the year.
