There's never been a better time to be in the recycling business.
What with the Aggregates Levy, the Landfill Tax, and the general
'greening' of national and European environmental policy, suppliers
of screeners, crushers and similar products have good reason to be
pleased. Business is bouyant.
This is likely to be reflected at this year's Site Clearance Zone,
where a number of the sector's key players will be launching new
kit.
Stand 709 will see the debut of two new BL-Pegson machines. It will
be the first time the 1165 HR crusher and the 4242 SR Trakpactor
have been on display at a British show.
The 1165, the latest in the firm's Premiertrak series, is a
track-mounted jaw crusher, suitable for processing hard rock,
stone, and also for use in recycling applications. It can handle up
to 300t/hr. The machine features BL-Pegson's recently developed,
hydraulically-adjustable M Series single toggle jaw with Hydraulic
Release. The Hydraulic Release system is designed to alleviate
problems associated with "instant stall" encountered when tramp
metals enter the crushing process, particularly common in recycling
of demolition and construction waste.
The new 4242 SR which is based on BL-Pegson's 428 Trakpactor shaft
impact crusher. It comprises a complete crushing, screening and
stockpiling unit built on one tracked chassis. The Cat-powered 4242
SR is suitable for primary or secondary applications in quarrying,
demolition and recycling, and has capacity of up to 360t/hr.
At stand 739, Doppstadt (UK) will have its biggest showing yet of
recycling machinery at SED. Of particular interest to smaller
operators will be the new 152kW AK 230 hammermill shredder,
designed to process green waste, pallets and clean wood waste. At
15t, the machine offers a high degree of mobility, and can process
between 60m3 to 80m3/hr of greenwaste or 12t/hr to 15t/hr of wood
waste.
At the other end of the scale, the company's DZ 750 is a two-in-one
shredder designed to maximise throughput and handle higher levels
of contamination in wood waste than a standard hammermill. The
455kW machine combines a slow speed single shaft shredding unit
(which acts as a pre-crusher) with a high speed hammermill
shredder, which processes the wood waste to the required
specifications. Visitors can see it in action during the show.
Another shredding specialist, Kendall Machinery UK, will be at
stand 737. The kit it will be showing includes the Beast Recycler
range of high speed shredders and EuRec's low speed shredders. A
3680 Beast Recycler will be on demonstration at SED. This machine
has the capacity to process stumps, pallets, green waste and
construction waste at a rate of 30t/hr to 100t/hr into a finely
ground chip or mulch on the first pass. Also on show will be the
S20.00D EuRec, a slow speed shredder that can cope with a wide
range of abrasive materials, while still having an output range of
10t/hr to 80t/hr.
At stand 723, composting specialist Harry West (Prees) will be
exhibiting the new, compact bio-chopper from Seko. The 5m3 capacity
SAM 4 bio-chopper is designed for use on green waste and tree
cuttings, with the mulched material then used as compost. With a
relatively low power requirement of just 30kW, the SAM 4 is fairly
quiet in operation and, at 1.7m wide, is easily manoeuvrable. A 2m
loading height makes hand loading an option. The machine uses twin
augers, which combine flights and blades to cut large material down
to small lengths. Outputs of chopped material can reach 4t/hr, and
a full load takes less than three minutes to empty.
Metso Minerals (stand 705) will be using SED 2003 to reveal the new
Nordberg ST 348, a mobile screen that can accommodate woven screen
mesh, punch plates, heavy-duty grizzly or finger decks.
The ST 348 includes the Intelligent Controller IC300 system, which
supervises and adjusts the unit automatically for optimum screening
results, while another technological feature, the SmartScreen,
controls the start-up and shutdown process and monitors all key
functions. The ST 348 is offered on tracks, wheels, or in track and
wheel configurations. Other options include shredders, vibrating
grids, and off-plant stackers.
Metso will also be showing off the latest addition to its range of
hydraulic hammers and attachments, the Rammer E 63 City. Slotting
in alongside the existing E65 and E68 models, the E63 is designed
for use with carriers in the 12t to 22t weight class. It has an
impact energy of 2100J, and a blow frequency of 450bpm to
800bpm.
On stand 703, Powerscreen, now of course part of Terex, will be
launching its Warrior 1400. The 1400 is a new high-capacity,
heavy-duty machine which is capable of screening, three-way
splitting and stockpiling a wide variety of materials, including
face-blasted material, crushed stone, construction and demolition
waste, coal, compost and topsoil. It is also capable of processing
overlarge items, such as tree stumps, logs and boulders. Weighing
in at 25t, the new Warrior 1400 has a set-up time of under 15
minutes, and an optimum output potential of 400t/hr.
Extec will be showing several new screeners and crushers at stand
T699, including the C-10 tracked jaw crusher. This has similar
features to the C-12, but is more suitable for the smaller quarry
or demolition site where operating space is limited. Capable of
crushing rock, concrete or asphalt either in quarries or on
construction/demolition sites, the C-10 is also very mobile, being
self-propelled on site and capable of travelling on road without
the need for a low-loader.
Also on display will be Extec's latest Doublescreen - the S-5,
which features a heavy-duty tipping grid activated by remote
control. It can accept feed from a wheel loader or excavator. Its
screening facility consists of two individual screening units; the
first is used as a fines extractor while the second box operates as
a grader, enabling the S-5 to produce grades of material to a high
specification.
Another new screen will be on show at stand H707 where Viper
International is exhibiting the Kompaq, a small, track-mounted
screen, designed for easy manoeuvrability around congested sites.
It can be fed by an excavator and has a capacity of over 100t/hr.
Viper will also be showing its Mini Sizer, which can be fed by
telehandlers, skid steers, excavators and backhoe loaders to screen
material ranging from 5mm up to 200mm.
At stand 715, Erin Systems Ireland will be showing off the new
Powercrusher 10/55, the latest in its range of impact and jaw
crushers. In addition, Erin will be exhibiting its screening
systems - the compact Fingerscreener 125T and the more heavy-duty
165T. It is also promising two brand new models which will be
revealed at SED.
Finlay Hydrascreens (Omagh) also plans to exhibit some new kit, on
stand H724. Its latest screener is the Finlay 883, designed for
quarrying, construction and demolition waste, and capable of
processing at a rate of up to 500t/hr. The 883's heavy-duty
screenbox with huge clearance between decks allows for larger
middle-grade products to be processed.
Two new mobile screens from US manufacturer The Screen Machine will
be on stand 722 belonging to reconditioned recycling equipment
specialist CGCS (Midlands). In addition, CGCS will be exhibiting a
range of wood/green waste shredders, trommel screens and compost
turning equipment.
At stand 702, Star Separation will be showing two products - a
picking station and a trommel. Star's systems use electric power
units, so with an absence of engine-driven hydraulics, they benefit
from being relatively low maintenance.
Anross, which specialises in ancillary equipment, will show the new
Montabert 125SX Breaker for the first time in the UK on stand 725.
The 125SX comes with sound proofing as standard. Anross will also
demonstrate two of its Segregator buckets. A Model 05 will be
showing its screening capabilities on a Hanix H75B, while the Model
20 will be in action on a new Fiat Kobelco E215 Evolution
excavator.
Baughan Barrel Screens, another ancillary specialist, will be at
stand 741. It recently acquired Hawkfawk and will display a number
of its products including a grapple, a stump splitter and a
pulveriser. In addition, Baughan will be showing its range of
barrel screens.
The firm travelling furthest to this year's Site Clearance Zone is
undoubtedly Officine Meccaniche di Ponzano, which hails from
Treviso in northern Italy. It will be at stand 704, exhibiting its
range of impactors and tracked jaw crushers. n
