In its second year at SED the Concrete Show has grown by 30%,
making it bigger and better than last year. This year, visitors to
the only UK event focusing solely on concrete construction, repair
and products, can expect to see more than 75 specialist
exhibitors.
Once again the Concrete Show will be staging a series of live
demonstrations between 10.30am and 4pm each day in a purpose-built
arena within the Concrete Show pavilion. This year's programme will
feature many new techniques and products not previously seen at the
show. Visitors will be able to see, live in action, the latest in
decorative concrete finishing on freshly laid and cured concrete,
the addition of steel and polypropylene reinforcement fibres, a
hand-held rebar tying machine, concrete vibration equipment and a
control joint dry cutting system.
"The inclusion of these products in the demonstration programme
gives the construction professional a superb opportunity to see the
latest equipment available to the UK concrete industry, in real job
site operating conditions," says Daniel West, show director of the
Concrete Show at SED.
The daily programme (see box, p58) also includes concrete pumping,
power trowelling, screeding, all that's available in surface
preparation, floor formwork and a cementitious flooring system.
Entry into the demonstration arena is free and attendees will also
have the opportunity to direct questions to experts in each of the
demos.
Several newcomers will be appearing at this year's show, many of
which will be displaying products not previously seen at the
event.
"The increase in the product ranges on display certainly helps
establish the Concrete Show as an all-encompassing event for the
concrete construction industry," says West. "In addition, the
growth of the number of companies displaying admixtures and
materials is helping confirm this as not just an event just to
source concrete equipment," he adds.
HTC Sweden, a producer of floor grinding equipment for the
construction industry, has developed a system called 'Superfloor',
which it claims is the "new industrial floor for the future". Live
demonstrations of the HTC system will take place at its stand.
Three Terminator machines will be showcased: the Terminator 2000;
Terminator 2000e (battery powered); and the Terminator lite 1500.
All are said to be compact, with a wide range of abilities,
manoeuvrability and strength. The heavier models can remove ceramic
tiles, epoxy coatings, paints, latex and adhesive residues, while
the 1500 machine can remove VCT, carpet, sheet vinyl and associated
residues.
Trelawny Surface Preparation will exhibit its five newest products:
the TFP 250 machine, which is designed as a robust floor scarifier;
the TCG 500, a dual counter-rotating disc concrete grinder designed
for smoothing concrete surfaces, removing high spots and texturing
floors for non-skid applications; the Challenger VL303 Needle
Scaler, which has a vibration level of only 2.3m/s2; the Reduced
Vibration Single Scabbling Hammer, with its single piece piston and
tungsten carbide-tipped cruciform head; and the re-developed
Vibro-Lo concrete pole scabbler, designed for additional operator
comfort without loss of power.
Exhibiting and demonstrating at the Concrete Show for the first
time, Young Black Industrial Stapling will showcase its range of
MAX rebar tying tools and other selected products. The
battery-powered machines are said to produce ties three to five
times faster than by hand with consistent performance and minimal
training - giving more production for less cost.
Somero Enterprises' S-9210 Copperhead Laser Screed will be launched
at the show and is said to take the backache out of placing
concrete. The Copperhead offers the benefits of laser screed
technology (consistent floor quality, increased production, lower
labour costs and better health and safety), in a package about the
size of an industrial lawn mower. The laser guided, hydraulically
propelled machine is said to give extremely accurate results on
poor ground and for structural reinforcement. It is equally
suitable for large or small projects with a concrete thickness of
up to 250mm.
Armcon's Cemen-Tech mixer can now handle recycled materials due to
the "unique", larger mixing auger which gives high-shear fast
mixing of recycled aggregates. Armcon's new Armfoam chemical has
been introduced to the mix allowing density to be controlled and
quality foam concrete manufactured. Armcon's director, Bob
Armstrong, told CJ: "This increased versatility of the Armcon mixer
will be of particular interest to customers serving the utility,
local authority and highway sectors wishing to enhance their
environmental policy and reduce costs."
Each mixer carries its own raw materials and produces concrete to
any mix design, with exact quantity drops at the point of usage.
There is no waste and trucks can move between customers without
having to return to base. Armcon supplies vehicles with capacities
of 4m3, 6m3 and 8m3 and a production rate of 1m3 every two minutes.
Civil & Industrial Products will highlight the benefits of the
Densiphalt jointless surfacing system. It says the system's
advantages include 24-hour curing, slip resistance, resistance to
rutting and freeze-thaw properties. The company says it had success
with the system on jobs like Stand 50 at Gatwick Airport's North
Terminal, where BAA selected Densiphalt as the refurbishment
solution for replacing 1,000m2 of surfacing. "The rapid early
strength gain of the Densiphalt proprietary microsilica based
mortar meant that the stand could be reopened to aircraft after 24
hours," says the company.
Oxfordshire-based K-Form will unveil its K135 Roadform, which it
says is an innovative and cost-effective alternative to
conventional metal shuttering. "Lightweight and durable, this high
performance system provides strength and flexibility and is easy to
install. K135 dispenses with the need for flexible joint fillers,
diamond cutting, the removal and cleaning of steel formwork, and
offers substantial time and labour savings."
In addition to its Revolution diamond blades and Ultima core
drills, Nimbus will feature the new range of Braun wall saws, wire
saws and drilling equipment. Live demonstrations will include wall
sawing using the new Braun machines, chain sawing with the ICS
machine and core drilling using the latest auto-feed drill rigs.
Other new products will include drill stands, drive motors and
bursters.
Utranazz will exhibit its new range of low-level, fully
transportable batching plants with outputs from 50m3 per hour and a
choice of two-, three- or four-bin configuration. The low-level
cement silos have capacities from 20t to 60t, complete with
electronic weigh batching equipment, off-loading legs and fully
computerised control panels. Also being shown for the first time
will be the Sermac truck-mounted concrete pump fitted with a 32m,
five section underfold placing boom and mounted on a 6x4 Mercedes
chassis.
Permaban will demonstrate Permasteel, the latest development in its
"leave-in-place" formwork range. Permasteel is available in four
heights for slab depths ranging from 50mm to 300mm. While it can be
effectively used on the ground, Permaban will demonstrate its use
as a metal deck levelling guide, where tests have demonstrated that
it can increase a contractor's ability to gain a greater degree of
flatness on these difficult surfaces. Also featured will be a new
curing agent/seal used for the fast-track Permashake range of
coloured dry shake concrete floor hardeners.
On the Wacker stand, visitors will be able to view the latest five
bladed, twin rotor trowel with its unique drive train and easy
overlap adjustment. Staff will be demonstrating the ultra low hand
arm vibration IRFUN poker for compacting concrete, the CT trowel
and a new floor saw.
Advanced Construction Materials manufactures specialist flooring,
maintenance and refurbishment products for contractors, builders
and other end users. It will exhibit its Monoflor SL, a steam
cleanable, non-shrinking, self-levelling polyurethane flooring
system available in a range of colours.
The 80M3/H concrete batching plant, one of a full range of
off-the-shelf modular and customer specified concrete plants, will
be on the Ocmer stand.
The latest release of its computerised plant control system will be
on Elettrondata's stand. The new system has polynomial and
interpolated batch book recipe entry, automated moisture control
and slumping station software as well as full record and invoice
printing.
Bentley Chemicals will show its range of Smooth-On PMC, Evergreen
and Brush-On of urethane rubbers and the Rhodorsil RTV silicone
elastomers for concrete moulding. On display will be examples of
Duo Matrix Neo (high strength gypsum) and Matix 'C' (high strength
concrete). Bentley will also introduce Reoflex, a new generation of
low viscosity, high strength urethanes from Smooth-On. They are
available in several hardnesses and either dry or wet, to aid
demoulding.
A number of new developments will be exhibited on Steelfields'
stand, including the Major 2000 (which can produce impressive
quantities of quality wet, dry or half wet concrete) and the 2000E,
an economy version. New mixer developments include: the diamond
carbide surfaced UltraHard wear plates; mixer washout systems; and
a system for measuring levels of material in a silo.
Putzmeister will exhibit its new BSA702D trailer-mounted concrete
pump and the Dynajet range of pressure washers. Also on show will
be the Mixoket M760HD screed conveyor and SP11 worm pump.
Completing the line up will be a truck-mounted concrete pump and
the Putzmeister Pumi returning to the show to deliver concrete for
the demonstration area.
Elkington Gatic will feature its Gatic Slotdrain surface water
drainage system. Supplied in 3m lengths, the system is said to
offer significant benefits over conventional channel drainage, as
it is durable, easy and quick to install, and it provides an
attractive finish without the hazards experienced with loose
gratings.
So if you're looking for the latest in batching and production,
admixtures and materials, or you want products for placing and
finishing, or repair and demolition, then it's all there for you to
see at this year's Concrete Show, which will continue to be located
directly at one of the two entrances to the SED show site. n
