Welsh town centre to get £15m facelift

Wales' Cardigan town centre is set for a £15m facelift by developers Eatonfield Holdings after initial plans were approved by the council this week.

The Pwllhai scheme will see the creation of new parking facilities, food outlets and a shopping mall at the west Wales town.

Work on the 18-month contract will also involve demolition work and moving some businesses to a two-hectare site north of the town.

Construction could start within the year although there are concerns over a proposed sewerage and drainage system upgrade for the town.

A detailed planning application for the two sites will be submitted within the next three weeks.

David Grace, town councillor and vice-chairman of Menter Aberteifi - a group set up to help rejuvenate the town - welcomed the scheme.

"From what I've seen the Pwllhai development will be a tastefully designed shopping mall which will help bring more shoppers and visitors into the centre of Cardigan."
