Siltbuster reduces risk
The Siltbuster, a mobile silt trap designed to reduce the risk of
prosecution for the discharge of oil and suspended solids, will be
launched at SED 2003 this week.
The standard Siltbuster has a capacity of 50m3 of water per hour
and, according to manufacturer Unipure, it is as effective as a
lagoon 20 times the size of the unit. "For a simulated construction
site run offs the unit removed 75% of the solids at a flow rate of
30m3 per hour. With flocculated sludge it achieved 99% removal (at
a flow rate of 20m3)," said Dr Keith Williams of Cardiff
University, who conducted performance trials.
The machine employs a system of inclined baffles to increase the
effective area of the unit.
