Wates has today (Tuesday) been named as preferred bidder on a £140m PFI schools contract for Essex County Council.
The QED consortium will design, build, finance and operate three of Clacton's secondary schools.
Designers for the 25-year contract are Architects Co-Partnership, Faber Maunsell and The Landscape Partnership.
Work will see new premises for Bishops Park College, an upgrade of gymnasium, dining and sixth form facilities at Clacton County High School and the upgrade of a new sportshall, art, design and media and sixth form facilities at Colbayns High School.
Construction is due to start within the next few months.
The capital value of the works is approximately £25m. The overall contract value is in excess of £140m.
