Long anticipated attempts by plant manufacturers to establish
closer relationships with hirers have taken a step forward with the
launch of Hawk Terex Rental.
In a move described by Terex as "a strategic development to secure
a firm foothold in the UK and European rental market",
Shropshire-based Hawk Rental has purchased Terex's existing rental
fleet. The agreement also sees Hawk take delivery of six new TA40
ADTs and a number of Generation 7 TA27 and TA30 dumptrucks.
Terex Construction president Colin Robertson said: "We are
delighted with this agreement and look forward to working with such
a high-profile organisation as Hawk Plant Hire."
The agreement follows the purchase in 2001 of Hewden Stuart, the
country's largest hire company, by Caterpillar dealer Finning.
Since then, analysts have said more such deals were likely and
several major manufacturers have been rumoured to be looking for
ways into the hire market.
"We want to have a closer relationship with our customers, and this
is how we've chosen to do it," said Terex Construction vice
president John Rutherford.
However, he said there were no requirements on Hawk to purchase
exclusively from Terex. "Once you start putting caveats into a
relationship it doesn't work. We're good at making kit and they're
good at hiring it."
