Building costs levelling out
Anecdotal evidence of costs being stable is confirmed by the latest
materials price index from the Department of Trade &
Industry.
Revised figures for October and provisional figures for November
show little or no change for most categories.
Coated roadstone increased in November after dropping in price in
October, while cement recorded an almost imperceptible drop. All
the other categories stayed the same. Year-on-year comparisons show
that cement has increased by 4.5 points, ready-mixed concrete by
13.2 points, all bricks by 4.5 points and doors and windows by 3.9
points.
Ceramic tiles have dropped in price year-on-year by 10.1 points and
fabricated structural steel by one point. Year-on-year comparisons
of aggregates are invalid due to the introduction of the Aggregates
Levy in April last year.
