London employment scheme
The Building London: Creating Futures (BLCF) employment scheme,
which aims to create a cross-London network capable of transferring
skilled people from site-to-site, is now up and running almost a
year after the first pilot schemes finished (CJ 6 Feb 02).
BLCF project manager Fraser Liggett said: "We have secured European
funding, drawn up contracts, developed a website, and recruited six
workplace co-ordinators."
The workplace co-ordinators, based at major development sites in
central London with Bovis Lend Lease, Mace, Metropolitan Housing
Trust, Mulalley & Co, Rail Link Engineering and St George's
Regeneration, work closely with employment and training agencies.
They aim to match potential recruits with the right job, depending
on their skill level and experience. They also maintain regular
contact with new recruits after they begin work.
BLCF is in discussion with other developers and is looking at
taking the scheme to other parts of London.
