Laing O'Rourke buys Carillion's piling arm

Laing O'Rourke has completed its acquisition of Carillion's piling business, Expanded Piling, for £6.3m.

Chief executive Ray O'Rourke said: "The acquisition of Expanded Piling adds a significant dimension to Laing O'Rourke's civil engineering capability, particularly in foundation and substructure design and delivery where the company is market leader.

"Expanded Piling will continue to serve its existing client base and the market as a whole. The company will now also be working on Laing O'Rourke's major substructure and civil engineering projects, and at the same time turn its attention to significant geotechnical joint venture opportunities both at home and overseas."

Carillion has written off £5.3m of goodwill due to the sale.
