Seddon Atkinson is back in construction


Iveco subsidiary Seddon Atkinson is to reassert itself in the construction and municipal market with its own distinct product offerings of lightweight machines for the construction and aggregate industries and the waste sector.

First on to the market is a 6x4 Strato double-drive off-road tractive unit plated for 44t, but with the capability to be plated at 80t for Special Types operations.

The unit represents a unique collection of standard Iveco parts: low roof Euro Trakker cab, 328kW Cursor 13 engine, EuroTronic semi-fully-automatic 16-speed transmission and Meritor axles with cross and inter-axle diff locks.

Overall the wheelbase is 3.2m, with a 1.38m rear bogie spread. As standard are ventilated discs brakes at the front and drums at the rear as well as twin amber flashing beacons line fitted.

Now built in Madrid, these vehicles will be sold under the Seddon Atkinson brand. The Iveco badge will be used on the continent.

In 2005/6 lightweight Strato multi wheelers with the Stralis cab, Cursor 10 engines and EuroTronic transmissions will be launched, aimed at the construction and waste markets such as sand, gravel aggregate andtarmac tippers, skip loaders,concrete mixers and highway maintenance.

In the autumn a new Pacer 6x2 mid-lift unit will be launched in both standard and narrow width.
