Heathrow debut for Wirtgen
The world's first Wirtgen WR2500SK soil-stabiliser and recycler,
which only received its official launch at last month's Intermat
show in Paris, is already hard at work on the T5 project at
Heathrow.
The machine is being used by UK-based soil-stabilisation contractor
Geofirma as part of its contract to stabilise up to 750,000m2 of
the new site. The machine's integrated spreading device is a
pre-requisite for the job as a result of the need for a dust-free
environment - the building work is taking place adjacent to a
working airport, making the machine's integral hopper
invaluable.
"We have gained valuable experience on other UK airports such as
Gatwick and Stansted where a dust-free environment is essential,
coupled with the fact that we operate one of the largest fleets of
integrated machines in Europe," said Jonathan Smith, Geofirma's
commercial and technical director.
The WR2500SK comes with a re-designed cab with integrated
air-conditioning, removable wearparts on the mixing drum and a
power output of 500kW (up from 455kW on its predecessor).
