Taking its place in UK's top 10 piling contractors
Simplex, formerly part of the Britannia Group, was acquired by
Norwest Holst Soil Engineering in March 2000.
Norwest Holst recently changed its name to Vinci and all its piling
interests have now been re-titled Simplex Foundations. A turnover
of £16m - all piling - gives Simplex Foundations a place in
the UK's top 10 piling contractors.
A quarter of turnover is repeat business. "I want to lift that
figure to 75%," said Donovan. "My clients are mostly principal
contractors such as Shepherd, Wates, Simons and Vinci.
"Most of the subcontractor work we do is designed by us.
Contractors are better at detailing than consultants and when a lot
of people make decent money by suggesting alternative schemes it
shows someone got it wrong.
"We find that 50% of the projects we price could be engineered in a
better way, perhaps for economy, speed or safe processes."
