Cementation Foundations Skanska, a specialist in foundations and ground engineering, has been awarded a £10m framework contract by Tube Lines to upgrade 10km of embankments and cuttings on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly (JNP) Lines over the next five years.
Design work for the first seven sites will start immediately with all upgrade work completed by 2005, and with a further 11 sites due to be completed by 2008.
Gary Anderson, infrastructure portfolio manager at Tube Lines, said: "Upgrading earthworks is a vital improvements work activity for Tube Lines that will bring significant benefits to Tube passengers. By stabilising our embankments and cuttings on our lines Tube passengers will benefit from a better, smoother ride quality.
"We are committed to raising the standard of all embankments and cuttings on the JNP Lines and will be working with Skanska to ensure that new and improved working methods are implemented that will improve both project performance and the quality of remediation work."
