Balfour Beatty Construction has sealed an £87m fit-out
contract for the T5 rail station and passenger interchange - taking
the group's total workload on the project to £180m.
Work for BAA's high-profile project at Heathrow Airport will see
Balfour take the role of production leader, overseeing the fit-out
of the new station including the design and construction of all
finishes, mechanical, electrical, glazing, steelwork, lifts,
escalators and communication and control works.
Balfour has already started work on the new trackwork, the traction
power system and all the mechanical and electrical works for the
new station and passenger interchange areas.
The project is due for completion for the opening of the new
terminal in spring 2008.
This latest award follows recent successes in securing the
£95m contract for subsidiaries Balfour Beatty Rail and Balfour
Kilpatrick to extend both the Heathrow Express and the LUL
Piccadilly Line from the existing Central Terminal Area to
T5.
Last month Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering also sealed the
Highways Agency's T5 Spur Road contract as part of the £148m
M25 widening scheme between Junctions 12 and 15.
