Call for bidders for £1bn Southwark revamp job
The London Borough of Southwark is seeking development partners for
the £1bn regeneration of Elephant & Castle at the end of
the year.
Contracts to build 1,200 new homes to replace the run-down 10ha
Heygate Estate are being targeted by registered social landlords
and architects, while development teams are expected to bid for the
rest of the area.
The details were unveiled last week by Chris Horn, Southwark
council's project director at the launch of a public consultation,
which is expected to last three months.
Once this is completed, the council's executive cabinet will launch
finalised plans in November.
Horn added that the whole project would take 10 to 12 years to
complete.
