Adult apprentice scheme
The Scottish Building Apprenticeship and Training Council (SBATC)
has launched a revised adult apprenticeship for the construction
industry in Scotland.
Covering nine different trades, the scheme provides an opportunity
for people to become qualified tradesmen, who did not, for whatever
reason, pursue such an opportunity when they were younger.
Dave Smith, chairman of SBATC, said: "The adult apprenticeship is a
realistic option for employers to increase their numbers of mature
skilled tradesmen.
We have been extremelycareful to ensure that entry-level criteria
are as stringent as those for younger school leavers and the same
qualifications mustbe achieved before they arecertified."
The minimum age for the scheme is 22, with no upper age limit.
Applicants must be in employment with an employer who has
appropriate resources and experience to provide proper training.
