Shepherd wins £20m Home Office contract

Shepherd Engineering Services (SES) has been awarded a £20m contract to install and commission the mechanical and electrical building services for the new Home Office Central London Accommodation Strategy project.

The new 55,000m2 development will replace the existing government site known locally as 'The Three Ugly Sisters' situated in
Marsham Street, Westminster.

SES' contract comprises the 'CAD' coordination, installation & commissioning of the mechanical, electrical, life safety, domestic and public health systems/services to the new development.

The £311m PFI deal will see the razing of the former home of the environment department and their three unpopular 1970's tower blocks with a new state of the art Home Office headquarters.

Demolition of the 'Ugly Sisters' is already in progress and the construction phase will start this summer with completion due in spring 2005.

The scheme is a key element in the modernisation of the Home Office. On completion it will bring together central London staff from the Home Office and Prison Service who are currently located in six separate buildings around the city.
