Liverpool City Council has awarded Wrekin Construction a £5.2m urban regeneration contract.
The works encompass the Greater Williamson Square and the Cavern Quarter and form phase one of Liverpool's City centre Movement Strategy which aims to create a pedestrian friendly city centre with a high quality public realm.
This scheme forms part of the programme of improvements to contribute towards 2008 when Liverpool will be European Capital of Culture.
The project consists of infrastructure improvements to the public highways, landscaping (hard and soft), drainage, lighting and an ornamental fountain.
Work is due to start in August with completion scheduled for
summer 2004.
