The Ministry of Defence is today
(Wednesday) holding an industry day for the construction industry,
providing a briefing of the MoD's requirements for its Central
Regional Prime Contract.
The contract, estimated to be worth £750m, is for the
provision of capital works and property maintenance at over 100 MoD
establishments across the West Midlands, North East and north West
of England, Yorkshire and the Humber, and the whole of Wales.
The fourth of five regional primes, the contract is due to be
awarded in May 2005.
Mark grant, project leader for the prime contract, said: "We are at
the beginning of what will be a long term relationship with
industry. We will be seeking to identify and take forward those
companies, and their supply chains, that can demonstrate their
willingness to embody the principles of prime Contracting as well
as also ensuring the MoD achieves best value for money."
Eight contractors, to be named shortly, are reported to have
returned expressions of interest for the contract.
The contract duration will be for seven years with an option to
extend for a further period of up to three years.
