Aggregate Industries subsidiary Garside Sands has invested £250,000 in its processing facility at Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, enabling it to doubling capacity.
The capital expenditure, which included the construction of a new bagging plant, has meant operations formerly performed manually are now fully automated giving the silica sand specialists greater flexibility and output and improving the health and safety standard, particularly with employees.
Colin Parke, general manager of Garside Sands, said: "The investment means we can provide gravel, wet and dry sand and other associated aggregates to customers in 12.5kg to 40kg bags with a potential turn around time of two hours for 20t orders.
"The bagging plant has made our whole operation more flexible as it's easy to switch between grades so we can respond better to one-off and emergency orders, as well as the regular requirements of all customers," he added.
