Prescott to unveil areas for multi-million pound housing projects

Deputy prime minister John Prescott will today (Wednesday) unveil areas designated for multi-billion housebuilding projects across south-east England.

Five strategic sites in the Thames Gateway area of east and south-east London, Essex and Kent will be announced.

They are expected to be earmarked for tens of thousands of new homes, aimed at easing overcrowding in the London area and providing more affordable homes.

The sites believed to be announced are:

• Stratford in east London.
• Greenwich and Woolwich in south-east London.
• Thurrock in Essex.
• Barking in Essex.
• North Kent Thameside, between Dartford and Gravesend.
