Girl fractures skull after quarry fall

A 12-year-old girl has sustained serious injuries, including a fractured skull, after falling 20m down a cliff face in Fife.

The quarry at the Prestonhill Quarry, Inverkeithing, owned by Letham Bay Developments, is popular with children who gain entry by breaking through its boundary fences.

Last month, the Health and Safety Executive issued warnings to parents to ensure their children stayed away from quarries and landfills after a similar incident.

Ben Mason, 16, drowned in Holcombe Quarry between Radstock and Shepton Mallet, Somerset, while swimming with friends.
