Tarmac invests £2.5m in new walling system

Tarmac Precast is investing £2.5m in the launch of a brand new system for partition walling that claims to offer significant time savings and meet the recently revised Part E of the Building Regs.

"Speediwall responds to a real need in the marketplace for a quick, efficient walling system which also offers good sound proofing capabilities, water resistance and a quality finish," said Speediwall general manager Ian Coates.

The new lightweight walling system is ideal for the construction of non-load bearing walls for apartments, industrial and commercial buildings, and will be produced at a dedicated factory in Kirkby-in-Ashfield, with first deliveries anticipated in January 2004.

The technology behind Speediwall is already used in several European countries and Tarmac's investment will bring its many benefits to the UK construction industry for the first time.

"With an average build rate of 50m² per day for two workers, Speediwall is considerably quicker than block walling or stud partitioning," added Coates. "The lightweight tongue and groove panels are also easy to handle and install and are suitable for a skim plaster finish."

The launch will be backed by an extensive range of support services from Tarmac Precast to ensure that the industry "derives maximum benefit from this new development."
