The construction industry in Scotland has reached an important milestone in its fight against rogue traders with the award of Licensed Contractor status to the first batch of qualifying companies.
To date over 200 Scottish Building members have applied for registration and a comprehensive programme of assessment visits is now underway and will continue over the coming months.
Ninety-five on-site assessments have been completed and so far 35 companies have successfully completed the whole process, with the majority of those remaining only awaiting the completion of the assessment of their financial position.
With the other participating trade bodies beginning similar assessment programmes, the aim is to have a strong network of Licensed Contractors throughout Scotland in all of the building and allied trades.
Sid Patten, chief executive of Scottish Building said: "We are in a position to say with confidence that the scourge of rogue traders can now be dealt a serious blow."
