The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) is concerned by recent reports that Germany intends to subject aggregates to additional conformity assessment by its own authorities for products that have already undergone assessment by competent bodies in other member states to agreed European standards.
"This creates barriers to trade that the Construction Products Directive, which has been agreed by all member states, including Germany, to create a single market, was intended to overcome. This German action is in breach of European legislation and the European Commission needs to take firm action," said an ODPM spokesman.
