Girl injured in quarry accident

An unnamed 12-year-old girl has sustained serious injuries, including a fractured skull, after falling 20m down a cliff face in a quarry in Fife last week.

The quarry at the Prestonhill Quarry, Inverkeithing, owned by Letham Bay Developments, is popular with children who gain entry by breaking through its boundary fences.

Last month, the Health & Safety Executive issued warnings to parents to ensure their children stayed away from quarries and landfills after a similar incident.

Ben Mason, 16, drowned in Holcombe Quarry, Somerset, while swimming with a group of friends.
